Equipment design fundamentals and rules

Training

03/28/23 and 03/29/23 - Grenoble

EMC is an increasingly important factor in equipment design.
This course is designed for people wishing to understand and reduce the risks associated with electromagnetic disturbances, upstream of product design or integration.

After a reminder of the fundamentals and vocabulary, the speaker will present a precise description of the mechanisms of electromagnetic disturbances, with concrete examples.
Numerical applications, exercises and real-life examples will be presented and discussed.

  • Target group: Project managers, product managers, engineers or non-specialist technicians who
wish to prepare, organize, understand or monitor an EMC test campaign.
  • Prerequisites: No previous knowledge is required, but experience in electricity or
    electronics is desirable.
  • Teaching aids: Paper, slide show on video projector, practical exercises.

Objectives

Acquire basic knowledge of EMC
of equipment – Understand the phenomena related to EMC
of equipment – Identify the protection measures to be implemented – Build a risk analysis

Program

What is EMC? From theory to practice

- Definition & terminologies - Preconceptions about EMC - EMC and project management

EMC fundamentals

- Reminders of "EMC physics" - Description and characterization of disturbance sources - Disturbance modes and couplings - What if we only had to keep the minimum?

Equipment installation

- Grounding & earthing - Equipment implementation (placement and installation) - Cable and equipment shielding - Enclosure I/O protection (filtering, overvoltage, etc.) - Simulation and measurement tools
